Field Trip – Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument

November 9, 2016 - 8:00 am - November 11, 2016 - 5:00 pm UTC+0

Free
On November 9-11, the Acoustic Ecology lab undertook a field trip to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, recording dawn chorus and twilight.  We recorded again in Arch Canyon and took photographs to make a new virtual reality experience there two years after the last one.  We are interested in applying VR to the documentation of changing environments for scientific study.  We also ventured into Senita Basin early on the last day and experienced how the dark sky brimming with shimmering stars gradually turned blue for the mesmerizing sounds of the desert dawn chorus.
